Ephesians 6:11 – The Armor of God

Ephesian 6:11 - the armor of God

When soldiers go to battle, they put on their armor. In ancient times, armor was a metal covering to project arms, legs, chest and even the face. As Christians, we are also in a battle. Thankfully, God has given us an armor, too.

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Ephesians 6:11

Here at the end of Ephesians, Paul encourages us to be strong in the Lord. Then, he says are fight is not flesh and blood, but against principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness and spiritual force in wicked places (Eph. 6:12). How do we fight this enemy?

What is the armor of God?

First, we have the utility belt of truth. The truth is a powerful weapon against darkness. Seek truth, know truth and hide it in your heart (Psalm 119:11).

Next, you have the breastplate or righteousness. You have the righteousness of Jesus, the devil cannot make accusations and charges against you. Allow the power of Christ to live through you.

Third, shoes for your feet. In the footnotes of my Bible, it mentions the strong sandals Roman soldiers would wear would give them strength and stability on battle. In our every day walk of life, we can take to good news of Jesus to others.

Fourth, the shield of faith will strengthen you when you feel weak. Don’t underestimate the power of your faith to move mountains. In the last few months, I faced several challenges through my faith I saw God move in amazing ways. When you are anxious, grab the shield of faith.

Finally, the helmet of salvation and sword of the spirit. You are assured of salvation in the present and a hope for the future. You will grow with the sword of the spirit which is the word of God.

Don’t go into battle against the evil one today with your full armor. Don’t give up the fight.
