This month, we have looked at verses on what is means to love and how God loves us. Today’s verse tells us to do more than talk about love, but show our love in action.
My little children, let’s not love in word only, or with the tongue only, but in deed and truth.
I John 3:18
We must be careful not to just speak of love and say we love others, we also need to take action. We show others our love for them by our words but also our actions and truth.
You might ask how can I show love to others? Many of the verses we have looked at on love tell us how we can love others.
Psalm 103:8 describes God’s love as he is merciful, gracious and slow to anger. We can show love to others by being gracious, merciful, and slow to anger, too.
Matthew 5:44 says to bless those that curse you and pray for those that persecute you.
Mark 12:30-31 tells us to love our neighbor as yourself. Treat people the way you want to be treated.
John 15:13 says we should be willing to sacrifice for others.
I Peter 4:8 advises us to forgive sins and mistakes done against us. Christians understand forgiveness. By showing others forgiveness, we are modeling the love Jesus showed us.
I Corinthians 13:4-7 reminds us that showing love means patience, humility, we don’t promote ourselves over others, we are not selfish, we love truth, we stay close to those in need.
These verses give us many examples of how we can say we love others and take action to show our love to others.
It’s easy to say we love others, but our actions will reveal if we truly love others and we are trying to show God’s love to them.
We show God’s love to others by taking action. As we act in love, friends and family are open to our message and see God’s love for them through us.
How can you take action today to show love to others?
