Lamentations 3:22-23 New mercies every morning

Lamentations 3:22-23 New mercies every morning

God’s love and care for us are seen all around us. Every day the sun rises and the sun sets. The food we need for nourishment grows and flowers bloom. The seasons change. God’s goodness can be seen by all. We have new mercies every morning.

It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed,

because his mercies don’t fail.

23  They are new every morning.

Great is your faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:22-23

The Bible has many examples of God’s faithfulness to his people, even when they are not faithful to him. These verses from the book of Lamentations were written during the Babylonian exile.

But I also think of Exodus when the Israelites were in the wilderness, God provided food and water for them for 40 years! What a testament to God’s faithfulness. God provided for them the entire time they were crossing a desert! Let the thought of being in a desert (where food doesn’t grow and water is hard to find) for 40 years with hundreds of thousands of people who need food and water. Despite their sin, complaints, and doubts, God was faithful to them during this time.

I’m reminding you this morning, too. That God is faithful always. You may feel you are wandering in a desert of confusion, loneliness, or sadness but God has not forgotten you. His mercies are new every morning. His love is constant and unwavering.

Because of his character, his love and compassion for you will remain. His love for you is not contingent on anything you can or will do. He sees you where you are. He meets your needs. He loves you. Praise him for his faithfulness.
