Psalm 23:1-2 God’s care for you

Psalm 23:1-2

Do you ever stay awake at night worrying? Are situations in your life causing you stress?

God doesn’t want us to live every day with worry and fear. In fact, he gives us peace and comfort, and he meets our needs.

Psalm 23 is a short chapter describing God’s personal care for us through the metaphor of a shepherd caring for his sheep.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside the still waters.

Psalm 23:1-2

David, who wrote this Psalm, was a shepherd. He deeply understood the needs of sheep and how to care for them.

Think about Psalm 23:1, the first statement says God is caring for us. As the shepherd, he is watching over us, providing for our needs and protecting us.

And there’s more, “I shall lack nothing.” A few weeks ago our Pastor focused our attention on this verse. He reminded us that because Jesus is a Saviour, God is our father, we lack nothing. Jesus is all we need.

The rest of Psalm 23 gives examples of how God cares for us. He leads us to green pastures showing how God provides food and basic needs. He leads us to still waters. Remember, sheep are timid and rough and swift water would frighten them.

Read through Psalm 23 and reflect on how God cares for you, protects you, and sustains you.
