Colossians 3:15

Colossians 3:15

This morning I woke up earlier than usual and I could not fall back to sleep. I was thinking about things I needed to do today. One thing was causing me internal stress.

In all the events of life, the situation I will handle today is not significant, it’s completely unimportant. Yet, it’s still stressing me.

Are you experiencing internal stress or anxiety today? Do you feel worried about something that will happen today or soon? Are you struggling in your relationships with others?

The Bible assures of us no matter our circumstances that we can have the peace of God to calm us.

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body, and be thankful.

Colossians 3:15

Anxiety can be caused by many different reasons. Many days we will experience people and situations out of our control. These people and events can cause anxiety. But they don’t have to control us or steal our peace.

As we deal with stressful situations and people, we are called to show mercy, kindness, humility, meekness and longsuffering to others (vs. 12). We should also be willing to forgive (v. 13).

Then in Colossians 3:14-15, Paul tells us to let the peace of God be in our hearts. Verse 15 says to let the word of Christ dwell in you. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, Christ lives in our hearts.

When we have feelings of stress and insecurity our best option is to let the peace of God rule our hearts. Remember, in these verses peace is how we react to others (without anger, but with mercy and kindness) and how we feel. By responding as verses 12 and 13 advise, we will also have internal peace.

May you have the peace of God today.
