The first Bible verse I remember learning as a child was John 3:16. This simple verse has such profound meaning. In one verse, God summarized the whole Bible.
The verse starts that we have a problem – our sin. We need a solution. The answer is God’s love. Before we sinned, before we had a problem God has a solution for us – Jesus.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only born Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.John 3:16
God showed his great love for us by sending Jesus to pay the price for our sin. All we have to do is believe in Jesus and accept this gift to us.
The next 2 verses are also important. In John 3:17-18, Jesus says that he didn’t come to judge us or condemn us. If we believe in Jesus, we are forgiven and will not be judged for our sin. The greatest gift ever.
If you feel guilt today or you know others who live in guilt from sin, share John 3:16 with them and remind them Jesus came so they could be forgiven and have eternal life with no guilt.
In his classic work, Pilgrim’s Progress, John Bunyan describes our journey to salvation. As we search we encounter many challenges like ignorance, despair, and worldly wisdom. One of the problems is the heavy burden Christian must carry. Guilt is a great burden, but then we accept the gift of God’s forgiveness, our burden will be lifted.
God sent Jesus to make the greatest sacrifice and we received the greatest gift.
