Proverbs 16:16 – Value of wisdom
We’ve all had times and events in life when we wish we had more knowledge and wisdom to make a better decision.
Here’s a simple example from my younger days. When I graduated from college and got my first job, one of the first things I wanted to do was buy a new car. I was thrilled to visit the lot and pick my favorite car.
Imagine me at the car lot, I’m 23 years old. I only went to one car lot (my first mistake). Then I paid the full sticker price for the car! I probably spent over the sticker price, because they likely added every possible add-on cost.
Back then, I lacked wisdom when it came to buying a car.
As I look back, I wish I had researched more information to make a better decision. I might have saved thousands of dollars.
How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! Yes to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.
Proverbs 16:16
Many of our life’s decisions are more important than choosing a new car, and that’s why I’m thankful that God values wisdom more than precious metals like silver and gold. God wants us to have wisdom so we can make better decisions.
After I became a single mom, I realized that all the decisions I make are more complex. Wisdom is essential. A few years ago, I began asking God for wisdom in difficult situations.
These days, I pray for wisdom daily. I ask for wisdom before a crisis arises and for God to guide me in making the wise choice in all circumstances. In James 1:5, we find that if we lack wisdom, we can ask and God will give us wisdom generously.
Wisdom increases as we study God’s Word and reflect on God’s thoughts. When we apply wisdom, its value is greater than gold and silver.
